Pilkingtons 1934 Experimental Glass Insulator
These were used on Southern Rails coastal lines 1934/5
It was hoped that being glass they would shed salt water spray
thus preventing short outs.

Note the hand worked metal base!!!
This was the first insulator in my collection,
It came from the Bishopstone Station area on the Southern Rail line
that runs along the beach between Seaford and Newhaven.
I found it in the mud while bait digging and took it home
as I thought it might look good with a light inside for the garden.
Little did I know how rare it was back then.
