Brighton Bottles

Stoneware & Glass Mineral Water Bottles 1850 to 1950

Glass Bottomed Bucket

My favourite tool is this glass bottomed bucket

I've found a lot of really good bottles and signs

in riverbeds using this bucket,

(see 'digging' page addition 12th Nov 2007)

Its one of the buckets you might see outside a florists shop.

I cut out the bottom with a disk in a Black&Decker

The glass was cut to a paper template and

seated with bathroom sealant.

I painted the inside matt black to reduce reflection on the glass

and added a strap to carry it while wading.

The height of this bucket hepls viewing in deeper water.

River/Estuary Probe

This is my home made bottle detector.

It is hollow steel with one end flattened for gravel riverbeds and

the other end has a c1900 stone marble glued in place for use in mud banks,

it makes a distinctive sound when it hits glass or stoneware.
